EVOLVE presented in the transport session at the EBDVF 2019
Results from the EVOLVE project were presented by Virtual Vehicle in the transport session at the European Data Value Forum in Helsinki. The talk covered the mobility and transport application domain and listed use cases that are in scope of EVOLVE’s proof of concepts.
The extraction of knowledge from vehicle operating data (Big Data) is a very computationally intensive task and therefore a relevant application case for High Performance Computing. Possible application examples are driving style recognition (e.g. to enable pay-as-you drive insurances or driving tutoring), road quality recognition (e.g. to reduce the costs for manual road checks), or automated driving (e.g. to analyse the vehicle’s environment).
Of particular relevance is the linking of vehicle operating data with other data sources (e.g. weather data, traffic data, media data, …) in order to increase the business value of the developed data-driven services. Thereby, a complex data processing pipeline is executed. On the high-performance computing testbed created in EVOLVE, many complex data processing and analysis steps can be parallelized and some of them can even be accelerated. This makes the mobility and transport domain a relevant domain that can be supported by high performance computing leading to a measurable improvement within this domain.
