EVOLVE Webinar #8: Consolidating Storage Technologies in an HPC-Enhanced Kubernetes Platform

Webinar/Online
DDN, MemoScale, IBM Ireland

The webinar #7 of EVOLVE takes place on October 21st at 10:30pm CEST. It is organised by partners DDN, MemoScale, IBM Ireland.

This webinar is divided into 2 sessions.

First, DDN France and MemoScale will present "Putting heterogeneous storage in production, from hardware to middleware level". We will describe and discuss the pros and cons of the storage architecture in EVOLVE. This architecture offers several tiers of different storage media. The hardware is leveraged with an important effort on interoperability and articulation with storage middleware or storage abstraction. The middlewares developed with EVOLVE address performance, and fault tolerance. You will learn about improvements in erasure coding performance for ultra-fast data storage as well as how real time compression can accelerate remote storage with the MemoScale Transfer Acceleration Gateway.
Secondly, IBM Ireland will discuss "Seamless Data access in Kubernetes using Datashim". During this part, we will present how Datashim, a Linux Foundation AI&Data project, can improve user experience and performance when accessing data in a Kubernetes environment. We will show how the Dataset definition can help abstract the low level details of data access, independent of the protocol of the backing store (S3, NFS, H3). Finally we will demonstrate how Datashim can orchestrate caching and data-aware scheduling to optimize performance of pods accessing remote data.
